Squishmallow Storage & Display Ideas
Your collection deserves better than a laundry basket. Here's every serious way to store, display, and travel with Squishmallows — ranked by how well each option keeps your plushies clean, visible, and ready to move with you.
What matters when you store Squishmallows
A good storage system solves four problems at once: visibility (you actually enjoy the collection), protection (no dust, no crushing, no sun-fade), portability (conventions, sleepovers, moves), and growth (room for the next haul). Most setups nail one or two — the great ones do all four.
1. Open shelving
The classic. A tall bookshelf or cube unit puts your whole lineup on display and makes rearranging easy. Best for larger 12"–16" Squishmallows where the shape reads well from across the room.
Watch out for: dust builds fast on plush fabric, and direct sunlight will fade Sakura pinks and Galaxy purples within months. Rotate the front row every few weeks and keep shelves out of window light.
2. Storage nets and hammocks
Triangular corner nets or long ceiling hammocks are the cheapest way to reclaim floor space. They work well for overflow — the plushies you love but don't need front-and-center.
Watch out for: nets compress and hide smaller Squishmallows, and pulling one out usually means half the collection tumbling with it.
3. Clear display cases
Acrylic cases (IKEA Detolf, Kallax with doors, dedicated collector cabinets) solve the dust problem and turn your shelf into a proper display. Ideal for limited editions and signed pieces you want protected.
Watch out for: footprint and price. A single Detolf holds maybe 15–20 mid-size Squishmallows and takes up a full wall corner.
4. Under-bed bins and closet cubes
Great for long-term storage of duplicates or seasonal rotations. Use breathable fabric bins — sealed plastic can trap humidity and stale-smell your plush.
Watch out for: "out of sight, out of mind." Anything you can't see, you stop enjoying.
5. Collector travel bags
The one option that solves all four problems at once. A purpose-built collector bag with a crystal-clear window lets you see the whole lineup, adjustable padded dividers stop crushing, and a proper shoulder strap makes conventions, sleepovers, and cross-country moves effortless.
This is exactly what we built Squishy Collection Bags™ for. The Original holds up to 24 mini Squishmallows, the XL fits 12"–16" plush, and every bag ships with an 18k gold-tone zipper pull, an interior name tag, and a soft-lined display window so the collection stays visible even in transit.
The setup we recommend
Most serious collectors end up with a hybrid: a display case for grails and signed pieces, open shelving for the everyday rotation, an under-bed bin for duplicates, and a collector bag for the ten or twenty favorites that travel with you. It's the setup that keeps the collection loved, protected, and portable — which is the whole point.
